Croatian League Semifinals Game 1: May 27, 2007
Marin Rozic Cibona Just as expected, Zadar and Cibona got within one win from making it to the Croatian League finals, as both teams won their respective home games against Zagreb and Split in the best-of-three semifinal series on Saturday. Zadar had to battle hard to beat Zagreb 98-90 in Game 1. Carl English led the winners with 30 points while Todor Gecevski posted a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds for Zadar. Dwayne Broyles led Zagreb with 23 points while Denis Vrsaljko added 17 for the guests, who trailed 50-47 at halftime and rallied from a nine-point deficit in the final minutes to get within 91-88 with 50 seconds to go. Juby Johnson sealed the outcome for Zadar with a critical triple. Meanwhile, Cibona downed Split 90-74 to take a 1-0 lead in its semifinal series. Marin Rozic and Davor Kus led the winners each with 20 points. Andrew Wisniewski added 16 while Chris Warren got 10 for Cibona. Mateo Kedzo had 18 points for Split, Larry Ayuso added 17 and Hrvoke Peric 16 for the guests, who led 14-25 after 10 minutes. Rozic led the Cibona comeback in the second quarter, giving the hosts a 46-43 halftime edge. A 12-1 run in the third quarter allowed Cibona to get the lead for good and never look back. Game 2 will be here on Tuesday.
