For the second year in a row, The Eternal City opens the Nike International Junior Tournament series action with the Torneo Città Di Roma, organized by A.S. Stella Azurra in Rome, Italy and running from December 27 to 29, 2009. All games will be played at Rome's Arena Altero Felici. The three clubs that have shared all the previous seven NIJT titles - CKSA of Russia, FMP of Serbia and Zalgiris of Lithuania - are present in this first qualifying tournament. They will be joined by four Italian entries - always-dangerous Montepaschi Siena, Benetton Basket Gioco Digitale, Lottomatica Roma and Stella Azzurra - and by Benetton Fribourg Olympic of Switzerland. CSKA and FMP are sure to play each other in the same opening group, as are Zalgiris and Montepaschi in the other one. Since last year's tournament champ, Kalise Gran Canaria, is not participating this time, what is sure is that on December 29, there will be a new champ and a new qualifier from Torneo Città Di Roma to the NIJT finals at the 2010 Final Four in Paris next spring!
